Cherlyn is keeping very busy these days! As a Christian artist, worship leader, songwriter, pianist, teacher and Workshop Instructor, her life is always hopping! Add to that being a pastor’s wife and a mother of a nine-year-old boy, and her life is very full. She would also say it is very rich.
A sparkling violinist of Scandanavian heritage, Cherlyn's gifts have been affirmed world-wide. Cherlyn's call is to bless and encourage God's people, reminding them that they've been created to be God's masterpiece, through music and creatively sharing from God's Word. She does this both in the local church, and in the church at large, ministering in concerts of all sizes (including in homes), leading worship for churches, camps and conferences, and working with dramatists, gospel artists, dancers, as well as reknown speakers such as Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie and many others.

Cherlyn's new instrumental CD, "Tune My Heart," is not only a beautiful expression of prayer and heart-felt joy, but it is a reflection of her own personal journey in music. Co-produced by gospel artist Paul Greenidge, the CD features her unique blend of Celtic, gospel and jazz expressions. For Cherlyn, making the CD felt like coming home - it brought together all the ways in which God has stretched her horizons over the years, journeying from being a classical violinist, to developing a Celtic style, a jazz style, a true gospel style, and a contemporary style. Coming back to the recording studio after a long hiatus since her last albums, she's found recording a whole new, absolutely fun experience.

Cherlyn talked about her journey in an interview with Charise, who hosted Spotlight Monday Night, KPDQ FM in Portland. Read the interview.

As a Christian violinist, worship leader, songwriter and coach, Cherlyn's call is to encourage and bless God's people, to inspire them to use their gifts with passion, and to encourage them to be passionate in living in love with the Lord Jesus. While she plays all styles of music with her band, her unique gifting is in bringing freshness to the hymns of the church, blending them with new music in a way that bridges boundaries and touches hearts of all ages and cultures. Cherlyn's Concerts of Worship bring her music together with dance artists, gospel artists, a contemporary worship band, drama, video and more for a truly unique, uplifting worship experience that inspires and calls people to passionate living in their faith. “For me," says Cherlyn, "it’s about God working through our concerts to speak to people, to bless them and encourage them with the message He’s given us to share.”

Cherlyn was recently featured on television, as a guest of "Seattle Praise." Her new CD, "Tune My Heart," has been highlighted on the radio program "Hymns of Praise," and has been given enthusiastic reviews on both radio and television.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Cherlyn plays throughout the United States, and has performed throughout Scandinavia and Germany. Before going into full-time ministry, Cherlyn played in shows with Natalie Cole, Liza Minnelli, Yanni, Rudolph Nureyev, and many others. Having earned a Master’s degree in Violin performance from the St. Louis Conservatory, she’s also played with the Chicago Civic Orchestra and the Federal Way Symphony, been on the faculty of Kenyon College and the St. Louis Conservatory and Schools for the Arts, as well as several of the largest music schools in the country. Her most rewarding teaching experience was working with the Merit Music Program and Conservatory in Chicago. While a prestigious school for music, Merit has a heart for making a difference in their community. She became involved in their In-Schools program, coming alongside and teaching economically challenged and at-risk youth in the inner city of Chicago. She's thankful for what it taught her, and for the opportunity to be part of the kids' lives. She has continued to mentor students wherever she's lived, and sees that as a very important part of her ministry.

Cherlyn has been a worship leader for over 15 years, having worked with her husband, a Pastor in the Evangelical Covenant Church, in both established church ministries and in church planting. Cherlyn regularly performs in concert, leads worship for various conferences and events, and provides workshops and consulting to help musicians and leaders develop skills and fresh vision for music ministry. She is currently working with Mosaic Covenant Church, a multi-cultural church plant in Hillsboro, Oregon. Cherlyn’s heart is in developing the areas of multi-sensory worship, multi-cultural worship, mentoring the next generation, and above all, passionate worship of our Lord and Savior. Cherlyn loves spending time with her nine-year-old son and having fun with her family, and would rather be at the ocean or near the top of Mt. Rainier more than anywhere else in the world! She and her family live in the Seattle area.
